Initially offered in CXL and CXL Plus trims, the SUV was limited to the CXL trim for the last three years of production. A V8 engine that matched to a four-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive was standard for all four model years, though owners had the option in 2007 of power being sourced through a 4.2-liter six-cylinder engine.

Standard amenities found on the Buick Rainier included 17-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic headlights, fog lights, and the OnStar telematics system from GM. Available options included satellite radio, A DVD system, and navigation.
